‘This volume is not the first attempt to introduce Adolf Hitler into society as an image constant. However, it is the first successful illustrated book that manages not only to tell the story of Hitler, but also to make him appear both as a leader and as a natural human being by means of a skilfully arranged sequence of images. - Dieses Diplomprojekt dokumentiert den Materialstrom von synthetischen Kunststoffen durch einen rückwärtsgerichteten chronologischen Ansatz. Es kombiniert Feldforschung, visuelle Dokumentation und Materialexperimente, um die Reise von Kunststoffen von ihren Endprodukten zurück zu ihrem Ursprung im Erdöl nachzuvollziehen.
"Block to Blob" umfasst Besuche an verschiedenen Orten der Produktionskette, wie etwa Produktionsanlagen, Ölraffinerien, Pipelines und Förderstätten und endet in einem Waldökosystem, wo Rohöl auf natürliche Weise an die Erdoberfläche tritt. Diese Erfahrungen werden in einer Forschungspublikation zusammengestellt, die dieser rückwärtsgerichteten Erzählweise folgt.
Eine Videoinstallation dokumentiert die besuchten Orte und liefert einen visuellen Kontext zu den industriellen Prozessen, der verborgenen Infrastruktur und der natürlichen Substanz im Wald. - This diploma project details the material stream of synthetic plastics through a reverse chronological approach. It combines field research, visual documentation, and material experimentation to retrace the journey of plastics from their final products back to their origins in petroleum.
‘block to blob’ includes visits to various sites in the production chain, such as manufacturing facilities, oil refineries, pipelines, and extraction sites, concluding in a forest ecosystem, where crude oil naturally seeps to the earth's surface. These experiences are compiled into a research publication that follows this reverse narrative.
A video installation documents the visited locations, providing visual context for the industrial processes, hidden infrastructure and the natural substance in the forest. Additionally, a series of objects made from petroleum-coated wood and polystyrene grounds the project in tangible materials.

- Die vorliegende Abschlussarbeit „By Users for Users. Memes als digitale Folklore“ untersucht die kulturellen, technologischen und politischen Dimensionen von Internet-Memes als eine der zentralen Bildpraktiken der Gegenwart. Memes werden dabei nicht nur als humoristische Phänomene, sondern als Ausdruck einer globalen, partizipativen Bildkultur verstanden, die häufig auch als eine Form digitaler Folklore-Kultur beschrieben wird. Die Arbeit untersucht die Bedeutungsebenen dieser Begrifflichkeit und analysiert neben den technischen und ästhetischen Rahmenbedingungen von Memes ihre identitätsstiftende Funktion innerhalb digital vernetzter Gemeinschaften sowie ihre Verstrickungen mit plattformkapitalistischen Infrastrukturen. Ein besonderer Fokus liegt darauf, wie einzelne Memes, Communitys und Plattformen durch reaktionäre Akteur:innen angeeignet und instrumentalisiert werden.
Als Fallbeispiel dient der Arbeit das sog. Wojak-Meme, eine dilettantisch erstellte Computergrafik eines melancholischen Gesichts. Wojak illustriert nicht nur die für Memes charakteristische Amateurästhetik, sondern auch, wie Memes als ‚visuelle Dialekte‘ bestimmter Communitys funktionieren und hierbei sowohl Gemeinschaft stiften als auch ausschließen können. Speziell das Wojak-Meme und seine Variationen werden durch die neurechte Alt-Right sowie durch die misogyne Incel-Community verwendet, um unter dem Deckmantel von Ironie und Humor Ideologien und Feindbilder zu erzeugen und zu verbreiten.
Genau wie der Philosoph Antonio Gramsci die Relevanz von Folklore für den frühen italienischen Faschismus beschrieb, trägt auch digitale Folklore maßgeblich zur Konstitution von Weltbildern bei und ist dabei oft wirkmächtiger als offizielle Normen und Gesetze. Was einst als eine ‚Demokratisierung der Bildproduktion‘ beschrieben wurde, ist längst zu einer Gefahr für die Demokratie geworden. Abschließend plädiert die Arbeit deshalb für eine kritische Folkloristik des Digitalen, die die Bildwelten der Partizipationskultur interdisziplinär zwischen Kunst- und Medienwissenschaften analysiert, um so deren Bildcharakter sowie die Dynamiken digitaler Infrastrukturen zu reflektieren.

- The M.A. thesis "By Users for Users. Memes as Digital Folklore" examines the cultural, technological and political dimensions of Internet memes as one of the central image practices of the present day. Memes are understood not only as a humorous phenomenon, but also as an expression of a global, participatory image culture, which is often described as a form of digital folklore culture. The text examines the layers of meaning of this terminology and, in addition to the technological and aesthetic conditions of memes, analyzes their identity-forming function within digitally networked communities as well as their entanglements with platform capitalist infrastructures. A particular focus is on how individual memes, communities and platforms are appropriated and instrumentalized by reactionary actors.
The so-called Wojak meme, an amateurishly created computer graphic of a melancholy face, serves as a case study. Wojak illustrates not only the amateur aesthetics characteristic of memes, but also the function of memes as ‘visual dialects’ of certain communities which simultaneously include and exclude individuals. In particular, the Wojak meme and its variations are used by the reactionary alt-right and the misogynistic incel community to create and disseminate ideologies and enemy images under the guise of irony and humor.
Just as philosopher Antonio Gramsci described the relevance of folklore for early Italian fascism, digital folklore also contributes significantly to the constitution of world views and, often proving more powerful than official laws and values. What was once described as a ‘democratization of image production’ has long since become a threat to democracy. In its conclusion, the thesis therefore advocates for a critical folkloristics of the digital that analyzes the visual worlds of participatory culture in an interdisciplinary way between art history and media studies in order to reflect on their visual character and the dynamics of digital infrastructures.

- Das Projekt „Crotto Collection“ untersucht den Raum des Badezimmers von der funktionalen Nasszelle bis zum häuslichen Refugium. Trotz ihrer Vielfalt teilen Baderäume ein zentrales, funktionales Element: die Sanitärkeramik.
Das Projekt beschäftigt sich mit den Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten durch die Übersetzung gebrannter Sanitärkeramik in ein neues Material. In Zusammenarbeit mit der Firma Geberit GmbH wird die Zusammensetzung des Materialentwurfs untersucht, auf ihre Eigenschaften geprüft und ein Gestaltungskonzept für Badezimmeraccessoires entwickelt. Basierend auf den Forschungsergebnissen wird ein Konzept entwickelt, das als Ansatz dient, keramische Abfälle innerhalb der Produktionskette einer Industrie weiter zu verwerten. Parallel zu verschiedenen Fliesenformen wird ein Zubehörset bestehend aus Spiegelhalter, Becher und Seifenschale entworfen. Darüber hinaus werden Vasen aus Toilettenformen entwickelt, als Symbol für die Ausweitung des Badezimmers in andere Wohnräume.

- The project “Crotto Collection” examines the bathroom space from the functional wet room to the domestic refuge. Despite their variety, bathrooms all serve a common purpose. The central component of any bathroom is the sanitary ceramics.
This fact gives rise to the project, which deals with the design possibilities of translating fired sanitary ceramics into a new material. In collaboration with Geberit GmbH, material properties and usability are being investigated. Based on the research results, a design concept is developed that serves as an approach to translate ceramic waste within the production chain of an industry. Parallel to different shapes of tiles, an accessory set consisting of a mirror holder, a tumbler and a soap dish is created. In addition, vases are designed from toilet forms, as a symbol of extending the bathroom space into other living spaces.

- Das ist ein Kinderspiel, not an Apple, 也就八年 ist meine erste Einzelausstellung, sowie mein Abschlussprojekt. Es ist eine tief persönliche Reflexion über meine Erfahrungen in Deutschland, die meinen künstlerischen Ansatz und mein konzeptionelles Denken maßgeblich geprägt haben. Mein Fokus auf sprachlichen Herausforderungen, kulturelle Kollisionen und die Gegenüberstellung verschiedener Welten ist in meiner Arbeit deutlich erkennbar.
Indem ich Fotografie als meine primäre Sprache nutze, konzentriere ich mich auf das alltägliche Leben, das in den Ecken der Städte verborgen ist – gesehen, aber vergessen, wie die Stuttgarter Straße in Karlsruhe. Dieses Thema wurde besonders deutlich, als ich nach der Pandemie in meine Heimatstadt zurückkehrte. Ich beobachte aufmerksam die marginalisierten Bereiche meiner Heimatstadt und die oft unsichtbaren Aspekte des täglichen Lebens meiner Familie. Diese sowohl ungewohnte als auch vertraute Perspektive vertieft sich in die Frage, wie das Leben in Deutschland meine Weltanschauung beeinflusst hat. Es betont die Komplexitäten, die aus Konflikten zwischen Sprachen und Kulturen entstehen.
Durch Fotografie, Video, Live-Performance und Publikation webe ich ein Netz aus Zeit, das Individuen, Ereignisse und Objekte aus parallelen Zeitlinien miteinander verknüpft. Jedes Fragment eingefrorener Zeit erzählt seine eigne Geschichte und präsentiert eine einzigartige Erzählung – sei es aus einer einheimischen Perspektive oder durch die Linse einer neuen Beobachtung, die durch eigne Erfahrungen in Deutschland geprägt ist.
Meine acht Jahre Leben in Deutschland scheinen in dieser acht Jahre alten Apfelkerzen eingefroren zu sein, sich entwickelnd und eine neue Form annehmend, während sie brennt und sich die Zeit ändert.

- My graduation project is a deeply personal reflection on my experiences living in Germany, which have significantly shaped my artistic approach and conceptual thinking. I focus on language challenges, cultural collisions, and the juxtaposition of different worlds, all of which are evident in my work.
Using photography as my primary language, I focus on the everyday life hidden in the corners of cities – seen but forgotten, such as Stuttgarter Street in Karlsruhe. This theme became particularly pronounced upon my return to my hometown after the pandemic. I keenly observe the marginalized areas of my hometown and the neglected aspects of my family's daily life. This both unfamiliar and familiar perspective delves into how living in Germany has impacted my worldview, emphasizing the complexities arising from conflicts between languages and cultures.
Through photography, video, live performance, and publication, I weave a web of time, intertwining individuals, events, and objects from parallel timelines. Each fragment of frozen time tells its own story, presenting a unique narrative – whether as a native perspective or through the lens of a new observation shaped by my experiences in Germany.

Inhaltlich wurde der Fokus auf die gesellschaftskritischen Themen des Märchens von Leistungsgesellschaft, Streben nach Erfolg, Sehnsucht nach Anerkennung, Sicherheit und Liebe gelegt und in die heutige Zeit transferiert.

- Meine Arbeit zielt darauf ab, die Gefühle der heutigen chinesischen Jugend zu verstehen. Teure Wohnungen und stressige Jobs machen das Leben schwierig, besonders in überfüllten Städten, wo kaum Freizeit bleibt. Viele Menschen sehnen sich nach einem Ort der Entspannung, einem Zufluchtsort fernab vom Trubel des Stadtlebens.
Nehmen wir meinen Freund als Beispiel. Um innere Ruhe zu finden, hat er seine kleine Wohnung mit grünen Pflanzen gefüllt. Obwohl der Raum nicht groß ist, ist er seine kleine Oase. Inspiriert von einem koreanischen Gedicht über die Suche nach Trost inmitten der Menschenmengen, glaube ich, dass wir alle einen besonderen Ort brauchen – eine ruhige "Insel" inmitten des Trubels.
Wie finden wir diese innere Insel? Ich denke, das ist für jeden unterschiedlich. Vielleicht durch das Genießen von Kunst oder das Teilnehmen an einer ruhigen Teezeremonie. Für mich ist es das Drachenbauen. Das Drachenbauen ist eine kollektive Erfahrung, die Freude und Frieden bringt, ähnlich wie das Finden unseres eigenen ruhigen "Drachenwegs".
Mein Abschlussprojekt soll Menschen helfen, ihre eigene Friedensinsel zu entdecken. Ich habe einen Raum geschaffen, in dem Besucher diese Reise selbst erleben können. Wenn man eintritt, fühlt es sich an, als würde man meine Insel betreten. Das Design ist von der Ästhetik und Philosophie der chinesischen Song-Dynastie inspiriert, bekannt für ihre tiefe Verbindung zur Natur und Poesie.
In diesem Raum finden Sie eine Mischung aus realen und virtuellen Elementen – Pflanzen, Steine, Vögel und Wasser – all diese Elemente verschmelzen, um eine friedliche Umgebung zu schaffen.
Im Wesentlichen ist mein Kunstwerk sowohl ein Spiegelbild der menschlichen Suche nach innerem Frieden als auch eine Feier dieser Suche. Durch Kunst, Performance und den Kontakt mit der Natur hoffe ich, andere zu inspirieren, ihre eigene ruhige Insel inmitten des Lebenssturms zu finden.

- My work aims to understand the feelings of today’s Chinese youth. Expensive apartments and stressful jobs make life challenging, especially in crowded cities where there’s little time for relaxation. Many people long for a place of peace, a sanctuary far from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Take my friend, for example. To find inner calm, he filled his small apartment with green plants. Although the space isn’t large, it has become his little oasis. Inspired by a Korean poem about seeking comfort amidst the crowds, I believe we all need a special place – a quiet “island” amid the chaos.
How do we find this inner island? I think it’s different for everyone. Perhaps it’s enjoying art or participating in a quiet tea ceremony. For me, it’s kite-making. Kite-making is a collective experience that brings joy and peace, much like finding our own serene “kite path.”
My final project is meant to help people discover their own island of peace. I created a space where visitors can experience this journey themselves. When you enter, it feels as if you’re stepping onto my island. The design is inspired by the aesthetics and philosophy of the Chinese Song Dynasty, known for its deep connection to nature and poetry.
In this space, you’ll find a blend of real and virtual elements – plants, stones, birds, and water – all merging to create a peaceful environment.
Essentially, my artwork is both a reflection of the human search for inner peace and a celebration of this quest. Through art, performance, and connection with nature, I hope to inspire others to find their own quiet island amid the storm of life.

- In dieser Arbeit setze ich mich mit unterschiedlichen Geschichtsbegriffen auseinander. Dafür dienen mir die Diskussionen um die deutsche Erinnerungskultur als Einstiegspunkt. Das Ziel ist es allerdings nicht, unmittelbar in die polarisierte Debatte einzugreifen. Stattdessen richtet sich der Fokus auf das ideologische Fundament, das verschiedenen Formen, mit der eigenen Geschichte umzugehen, zugrunde liegt. Den theoretischen roten Faden bildet das Werk "After Evil" des Philosophen Robert Meister. Darin kritisiert er die Haltung, die Vergangenheit zwar als schlimm zu verurteilen, aber gleichzeitig auch als abgetrennt von der Gegenwart zu betrachten. Herausgearbeitet werden die Argumente unter anderem anhand von Filmen von Alexander Kluge und Harun Farocki.

- In this work, I examine different concepts of history. The discussions surrounding the German culture of remembrance serve as my starting point. However, the aim is not to intervene directly in the polarized debate. Instead, the focus is on the ideological foundations that underlie different ways of dealing with one's own history. The work “After Evil” by philosopher Robert Meister forms the theoretical leitmotif. In it, he criticizes the position of condemning the past as evil, but treating it at the same as something that is separated from the present. The arguments are elaborated on the basis of films by Alexander Kluge and Harun Farocki, among others.

- „How do imaginaries claim normativity? A society can only function if enough people envision the same imaginary, says Castoriadis. I claim, that new imaginaries need to be exercised, if they are to claim normative power. This paper investigates a homogenization process of a social imaginary: In the 1966 German civil defense exercise Fallex 66, 33 members of the West German parliament simulated the at this point intensely disputed Emergency Laws. This paper argues that the fusion of fictional and real elements in the exercised scenario, combined with a bodily and affective immersion in a bunker setting had the power to shift a social imaginary. By presenting the Emergency Laws in a conservative patriarchal imaginary landscape, the exercise induces a normative shift in the social perception of the Laws. This paper sheds a leftist light on the struggle, highlighting the political bias of the exercise, as well as giving a new vocabulary to the left critique of that time. With a unique conceptual set-up, this paper investigates the imaginaries transported by and the means of their production in the civil defense exercise. Hereby, I suggest a methodical set for the analysis of social imaginaries at the cutting surface of aesthetics, affect theory, contemporary history, and social philosophy.”
