- In zeitgenössischen Museen können hell erleuchtete Räume - die so genannten „White Boxes“ - im Zusammenspiel mit Kunstwerken, die Szenen von Gewalt und Diskriminierung darstellen, befremdlich wirken. Auch wenn es wichtig ist, historische Ereignisse aufzuarbeiten und Minderheitengruppen sichtbar zu machen, kann der Kontrast zwischen der hellen Umgebung, dem behandelten Sachverhalt und der Realität selbst in diesen Kontexten zu einer Entfremdung führen.
Diese Magisterarbeit untersucht das Spannungsverhältnis zwischen hell erleuchteten Museumsräumen und der Darstellung schwieriger politischer Themen und schlägt dunkle Umgebungen als Gegennarrative vor. Keller, Bunker und Dunkelkammern können in diesem Sinne Erlösungsräume sein, die Platz für die Neudefinition von Machtstrukturen, für Freiheit und Emotionen lassen. Ein dunkler Raum ermöglicht somit transformative Erfahrungen, bei denen der Blick negiert und das Gefühl von Verletzlichkeit spürbar wird , was zu Überlegungen darüber einlädt, wie eine eingeschränkte Sichtbarkeit paradoxerweise unsere Fähigkeit, in einem umfassenderen, emotionaleren und bewussteren Sinne zu „sehen“, verstärken könnte. Dies wirft folgende Frage auf: Kann Dunkelheit emotionale Nähe fördern und neue Sichtweisen unterstützen?

- In contemporary museum spaces, the prevalence of brightly lit spaces – the so-called “white-boxes” – can be jarring when juxtaposed with artworks representing scenes of violence and discrimination. While it is essential to process historical events and give visibility to minority groups, in these contexts, the contrast between the bright environment, the subject matter and reality itself can create a disconnect.
This dissertation explores the tension between brightly lit museum spaces and their representation of challenging political subjects, proposing dark environments as a counter-narrative. Basements, bunkers and darkrooms, in this sense, can be redemption spaces that leave room for redefining power structures, for freedom and emotions. A dark space is thus a fundamental way of facilitating transformative experiences, where the gaze is negated and we all feel vulnerable, inviting considerations of how limited visibility might paradoxically enhance our ability to "see" in a broader, more emotionally and intentional engaged sense – raising the question: can darkness foster emotional proximity and encourage new ways of seeing?

- „How do imaginaries claim normativity? A society can only function if enough people envision the same imaginary, says Castoriadis. I claim, that new imaginaries need to be exercised, if they are to claim normative power. This paper investigates a homogenization process of a social imaginary: In the 1966 German civil defense exercise Fallex 66, 33 members of the West German parliament simulated the at this point intensely disputed Emergency Laws. This paper argues that the fusion of fictional and real elements in the exercised scenario, combined with a bodily and affective immersion in a bunker setting had the power to shift a social imaginary. By presenting the Emergency Laws in a conservative patriarchal imaginary landscape, the exercise induces a normative shift in the social perception of the Laws. This paper sheds a leftist light on the struggle, highlighting the political bias of the exercise, as well as giving a new vocabulary to the left critique of that time. With a unique conceptual set-up, this paper investigates the imaginaries transported by and the means of their production in the civil defense exercise. Hereby, I suggest a methodical set for the analysis of social imaginaries at the cutting surface of aesthetics, affect theory, contemporary history, and social philosophy.”

- To what extent is sustainable development truly sustainable? In which ways is it different from previous ecological regimes, such as the extractivist practices of XXth century authoritarianisms? How do plans, and models, mediate between different temporalities? What can we learn about our social metabolism by studying climate scenarios as political techniques of government?
'The Nature of Total Planning' tries to answer these question by doing a close reading of the environmental history of La Bizkaia, a godforsaken valley in northern Spain. Historicising La Bizkaia’s social metabolism is the first step for a political and epistemological critique of green capitalism. A broader investigation of Francoist hydropolitics contextualises the pine monoculture as part of a national programme to enrol nature into Franco’s political project. The last section of this thesis compares that model with how La Bizkaia is managed today, under the sustainable development paradigm. While, discursively, sustainable development distances itself from the extractivist practices of fascist autarky, 'The Nature of Total Planning' reveals striking continuities in the material practices of La Bizkaia’s forestry management.

- “'Ballet Mécanique' was created at a time that is seen as a high point, and also repeatedly as a turning point, in Léger's painting. The film not only fits into his artistic conception, but also has it as its theme. 'Ballet Mécanique' is a manifesto, not only for his art, but also for cinema. As with his literary friends, Léger's intensive engagement with cinema is characterized by a double intention, by their turn to the young medium as a potential means of reforming their own art, and by the design of a new concept of film, which in turn finds its own means of expression through the creative intervention of poets and painters.”

„Diese Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit dem scheinbaren Widerspruch zwischen musealer und religiöser Bildbetrachtung und der Frage, welche Kriterien diesen zu Grunde liegen. Ausgangspunkt für diese Fragestellung stellt eine Debatte dar, die in Russland geführt wird. Dort wurden sämtliche Kirchen nach der Oktoberrevolution 1917 enteignet. Der Besitz ging an den Staat über, was zur Folge hatte, dass viele der ursprünglich sakralen Objekte und Bauten zerstört, umgenutzt oder an Museen übergeben wurden. Nach dem Ende des Kommunismus in Russland wurde die Frage nach der Rückgabe dieser Besitztümer häufig gestellt. Aber erst 2007 kam es zu konkreten Planungen zu einem Gesetz zur „Übergabe des in staatlichem oder städtischem Besitz befindlichen Eigentums religiöser Zweckbestimmung an die religiösen Organisationen“ von Seiten des Staates. Dieses Gesetz sollte den Kirchen des Landes eine rechtliche Grundlage für Restitutionsforderungen bieten. Zeitgleich fühlen sich russische Museen durch das Gesetz in ihrem Bestand und in ihrer Existenz bedroht.”
„Die Frage, wem man in einer solchen Auseinandersetzung Recht geben sollte, ist durchaus schwierig: den Museen, die Kulturgüter (wie Ikonen) schützen, oder den Kirchen, für die Bilder Instrumentarien darstellen, die eine aktive Rolle im kirchlichen Ritus spielen und auch genau für diesen Zweck hergestellt wurden? - ‘This work deals with the apparent contradiction between museum and religious image viewing and the question of which criteria underlie these. The starting point for this question is a debate that is taking place in Russia. There, all churches were expropriated after the October Revolution in 1917. The property was transferred to the state, which meant that many of the originally sacred objects and buildings were destroyed, repurposed or handed over to museums. After the end of communism in Russia, the question of returning these possessions was frequently raised. However, it was not until 2007 that concrete plans were made by the state for a law on the ‘transfer of state-owned or municipally-owned religious property to religious organisations’. This law was intended to provide the country's churches with a legal basis for restitution claims. At the same time, Russian museums feel that their existence is threatened by the law.’

Die eine, die verträumte Stadt an der Seine, gilt als das Mekka der Liebenden, ist der Inbegriff für Kunst und Kultur, war Sitz von Königen und Kaisern wir Ludwig XIV. oder Napoleon und blutiger Schauplatz zahlreicher Revolutionen. Sie ist geprägt von einer mehr als zweitausendjährigen Geschichte und verkörpert schlichtweg das, was man heute mit französischer Lebensart verbindet. - Die Hackerkultur verbindet Theorie und Praxis (nach hand-on Prinzipien) und einen neuen Ansatz für Kulturmaterialien ("information wants to be free"), der nicht nur eine andere Epistemologie, sondern auch einen neuen politischen Diskurs über Digitalität, Geräte und Menschen impliziert. Das Verhältnis zwischen Technik und Politik dieser Gruppe wird im ersten Kapitel analysiert: Zuerst wird die Entstehung proprietärer Software betrachtet, dann die Unterschiede zwischen Open Source und freier Software, und wie im letzten die Privateigentum und die soziale Beziehung zwischen Programmen, Benutzern und Entwicklern radikal in Frage gestellt werden. Später wird diese Beziehung anhand von Hanna Arendts 'Die conditio humana' in Bezug auf Arbeit, Herstellen und Handlen, Notwendigkeit und Freiheit, die die Bedingungen für Politik schaffen, weiter diskutiert. Im zweiten Kapitel wird das Konzept der Konvivialität (Ivan Illich) vorgestellt und diskutiert. Diese Idee wird später in der Wartung als infrastrukturelle Vorsorge weiterentwickelt und als ein zentrales Element digitaler Technologien vorgeschlagen, das weiter diskutiert werden sollte. - Hacker culture connects theory and praxis (following hand-on principles) and a new approach to culture materials ("information wants to be free"), that implies not only a different epistemology, but also a new political discourse on digitality, devices, and people. The relation between technic and politic of this group is analyzed in the first chapter: first focusing on the emergence of proprietary software; then considering the differences between open source and free software, the last one challenging radically the notion of private property and the social relation among programs, users, and developers. Later on, reading Hanna Arendts 'The Human condition, the relation will be further discussed in terms of labor, work and action, necessity and freedom, which establish the conditions for politics. In the second chapter, the concept of conviviality (Ivan Illich) is introduced and discussed. This idea is later developed in maintenance as infrastructural care and proposed as a central element of digital technologies that should be further discussed. This constellation of thinking and acting, playing and learning, experimenting and taking responsibility, as well as politics and social relations should play a prominent role in the debate about technology.

Thus, this master thesis is dedicated to an in-depth examination of the role of comedy and style in Marx's “Eighteenth Brumaire”, with particular attention to how these elements not only contribute to critical analysis but also give the work a meaningful literary form.
It will examine how the comic might be a strategy for Marx not only to support his arguments but also to function as a kind of 'means of struggle' in the political landscape. By examining the interplay of political analysis, comedic elements, and individual style in the “Eighteenth Brumaire”, this thesis aims to grasp the deeper relationship between political literature and literary form.
