- Stuckmarmor ist eine historische Stucktechnik des 16. und 17. Jahrhunderts aus Italien, die für ihre Marmorimitation bekannt ist. Dabei wurden Gips, Wasser, Pigmente und tierischer Leim gemischt, um marmorähnliche Oberflächen zu schaffen.
"Fake it till you make it" ist eine Erkundung dieses traditionellen Handwerks. Ziel ist es, die alte Kunst der Marmorimitation wiederzubeleben und ihre ästhetischen Werte in der heutigen Welt zu präsentieren. Darüber hinaus befasst sich das Projekt mit der Frage, was "echt" und was "unecht" ist, und untersucht die Rolle der Inszenierung. Inspiriert von den drei Teilen einer Säule (Basis, Schaft, Kapitell) habe ich drei Objekte entwickelt, die als Einzelstücke im Raum zu finden sind. Alle drei Objekte sind aus Holz gefertigt, zwei davon durch ein Stahlgerüst stabilisiert. Die Unterkonstruktion wurde dann mit Streckmetall verkleidet, verputzt und diente schließlich als Untergrund für den Stuckmarmor. Ein Making-of-Video zeigt die Herstellung des Stuckmarmors. Jedes der Objekte ist auf eine andere Art und Weise verkleidet, um die Konstruktion nicht immer zu verbergen, sondern sie vielmehr zu enthüllen, ganz nach dem Motto "fake it till you make it".

- Stucco marble is a historic plasterwork technique originating from 16th and 17th-century Italy, celebrated for its imitation of marble. This involved blending gypsum plaster, water, pigments, and animal glue to create marble-like surfaces.
„fake it till you make it“ is an exploration of this traditional craft of stucco marble. The aim is to revive the ancient art of imitating marble and to present its aesthetic values in today‘s world. In addition, the project will address the question of what is „real“ and what is „fake“ and examine the role of staging. Inspired by the three parts of a column (base, shaft, capital) I have developed three objects that can be found as individual pieces in the room. All three objects are made of wood, two of them stabilized by a steel framework. Ribbed expanded metal lath was then stapled onto the wood and plastered, serving as the base for the stucco marble. A making of video shows the production of the stucco marble. Each of the objects is covered in a different way, intended not to always conceal the construction but rather to reveal it, embodying the spirit of „fake it till you make it.“

- Die Ausstellung "Seeing With Four Eyes" verfolgt die Objektbiografie der Statue Ngonnso' aus Kamerun durch verschiedene geografische, zeitliche und institutionelle Kontexte. Dieser erste Satz ist bereits fehlerhaft. Ist Statue überhaupt ein angemessener Begriff, um eine Figur zu beschreiben, die für die einen ein Lebewesen darstellt, während andere sie lediglich als Beispiel für materielle Kultur betrachten? Und ist Biografie der richtige Begriff, um das Leben eines Artefakts zu beschreiben? Ist sie an ihr materielles Wesen gebunden oder existiert sie schon lange bevor sie aus Holz geschnitzt wurde und lange nachdem sie von Termiten gefressen wurde oder in einem brennenden Museum verloren ging? In dem Bestreben, mehr über Ngonnso' zu erfahren, beschloss ich, sie bei ihrem Namen zu nennen und damit nicht vorzuschreiben, was sie ist. Ich habe versucht, die Fragmente einer Geschichte zu sammeln, die sich nicht zu einem Ganzen zusammenfügen lassen. Ich verfolgte Fäden, die bis zur Entstehungszeit zurückreichen, zu Strafexpeditionen und Kriegshandlungen des deutschen Kolonialreichs, zu Kulturfesten in Kamerun und Europa und zu einem Museum, das versucht, mit seiner Sammlung zurechtzukommen. Ich habe mit Menschen gesprochen, die sich entweder mit Ngonnso' selbst oder mit den Kampagnen, nationalen Gesetzen und der Politik beschäftigt haben, die sie beeinflusst haben und weiterhin beeinflussen. Ngonnso' befindet sich in einem Schwebezustand: Sie wird im Frühjahr 2019 von einem Museumsdepot am Rande Berlins in eine neue Museumseinrichtung im Stadtzentrum transportiert und damit erneut von einem gelagerten Objekt in ein Ausstellungsobjekt verwandelt. Zugleich ist sie Gegenstand laufender Restitutionsverhandlungen zwischen dem Oberhäuptling des Königreichs Nso', Fon Sehm Mbinglo I, dem Staat Kamerun, dem Ethnologischen Museum Berlin und dem deutschen Staat. "Seeing With Four Eyes" bietet einen Raum, um über diese Einheit in ihren vielfältigen und widersprüchlichen Dimensionen zu reflektieren.

- The exhibition "Seeing With Four Eyes" follows the object biography of the statue Ngonnso’ from Cameroon through different geographical, temporal and institutional contexts. This first sentence is already flawed. Is statue even an adequate term to describe a figure that represents a living being to some people, while others merely see it as an example of material culture? And is biography the right term to describe the life of an artifact? Is it bound to its material being or does it exist well before it is carved out of wood and long after it is eaten by termites or lost in a burning museum? In the endeavour to learn more about Ngonnso’, I decided to call her by her name, thereby not predefining what she is. I tried to gather the fragments of a story that do not form a whole. I followed threads that go back to the time of creation, to punitive expeditions and acts of war carried out by the German colonial empire, cultural festivals in Cameroon and Europe, and to a museum trying to come to terms with its collection. I talked to people who have engaged either with Ngonnso’ herself or with the campaigns, national laws, and politics that have influenced and continue to influence her. Ngonnso’ is in a state of limbo: she will be transported from a museum depot in the outskirts of Berlin to a new museum institution in the city centre in the spring of 2019, once again being transformed from a stored object into an exhibition object. At the same time, she is subject of ongoing restitution negotiations between the paramount chief of the kingdom Nso’, Fon Sehm Mbinglo I, the state of Cameroon, the Ethnological Museum Berlin and the German state. "Seeing With Four Eyes" offers a space to reflect upon this entity through its multiple and contradictory dimensions.

- We live in times of high competition. Survival of the fittest is the omnipresent motto in most fields of human action, especially in the western world. This philosophy was only established about 200 years ago and manifested by Charles Darwin and especially the Social Darwinists at the end of the 19th century. They believed that according to a law of nature, only the physically strongest and most aggressive individuals and species would survive in the struggle for life. Many Social Darwinists justified therefore capitalism and racism with devastating consequences in the coming decades until nowadays.
Peter Kropotkin is attempting in his philosophical work Mutual Aid: A Factor of Evolution (1902) to dismantle their arguments and based on numerous observations of zoologists and anthropologists, he proves, that the fittest species are the most sociable ones and that sociability develops intelligence, which is the most powerful arm in the struggle for survival. This includes insects, animals and humans. Higher moral sentiments and compassion is also essential for survival in all societies.
The ritual burning of sage in nature should help to cleanse the negative energy of social darwinism in our world and make room for a more cooperative society, that will secure the well-being of all members, even the most weak ones and furthermore facilitate a more sustainable, safe and content society.

- In diesem Stück erkunde ich die Sinnlosigkeit des Lebens durch die Verschmelzung von Skateboarding und greife dabei auf das Bildnis des Sisyphos aus der griechischen Mythologie zurück, das den Felsen schiebt. Ich habe einen Raum von 8*5 Metern konstruiert, umgeben von Skateboard-Soundeffekten unten und Projektion Animationen oben. Die Trajektorie des Skateboards schreitet kontinuierlich voran, dreht sich und scheitert letztendlich auf dem Gelände, ähnlich wie Sisyphos, der endlos den Felsen schiebt und in einem unendlichen Zyklus von Anstrengung und Scheitern gefangen ist.
Die lebendigen animierten Skateboard-Spuren vermitteln Spannung und surreale visuelle Ausdrücke. Die Anstrengung des Skateboardens entspricht dem endlosen Rollen des Felsens und regt zur Reflexion über die Bedeutung des Lebens an. Zuschauer reflektieren in dieser Umgebung kontinuierlich über die Vergänglichkeit des Lebens und die Bedeutung von Anstrengung, was die widersprüchlichen Gefühle der Menschheit gegenüber dem Dasein widerspiegelt. Diese Szene ist nicht nur eine visuelle Freude, sondern dient auch als spirituelle Erleuchtung und Reflexion.

I constructed a space measuring 8*5 meters, enveloped in skateboard sound effects below and projection animations above. The skateboard's trajectory continually progresses, turns, and ultimately fails on the terrain, resembling Sisyphus endlessly pushing the boulder, caught in an infinite cycle of effort and failure.
The vibrant animated skateboard tracks convey tension and surreal visual expressions. The effort of skateboarding parallels the endless rolling of the boulder, prompting contemplation on the meaning of life. Spectators continually ponder the transience of life and the significance of effort in this setting, reflecting humanity's contradictory feelings towards existence. This scene is not just a visual delight but also serves as a spiritual enlightenment and reflection.

- Fisherman Fritz can no longer catch fresh fish. Not just since his stroke. His son Franz has not become a fisherman, but a hairdresser in the big city. He has hired a foreign carer to look after his father. Author Raphaela Bardutzky calls her play, which won an award at the Autor*innentheatertage 2022 at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin, spoken theater. Das mit dem Mühlheimer Dramatikerpreis gekrönte Stück erzählt in einem rhythmisch tobenden Redestrom davon, wie sich die Tochter polnischer Einwanderer und ihre „chosen sisters“ von der Last des Migrationsnarrativs befreien und zu dem werden, was sie eigentlich immer waren: Göttinnen.
Das Stück “Tragödienbastard” von Ewe Benbenek wurde im Wintersemester 2021/2022 im Rahmen des Seminars ‘Das neue Stück’ von Studierenden technisch und künstlerisch erarbeitet und in eine knapp zweistündige szenische Lesung umgesetzt. Das Projekt wurde von Constanze Fischbeck, Anna Haas und Eivind Haugland betreut sowie von Sandra Blatterer, welche in einem einwöchigen Lichtworkshop spannende Impulse zur Erarbeitung des Licht- und Bühnenkonzepts gab.
Im Anschluss an die szenische Lesung findet ein Nachgespräch mit der Autorin Ewe Benbenek und den Mitwirkenden statt.

The play, which was awarded the Mühlheim Dramatist Prize, tells the story of how the daughter of Polish immigrants and her "chosen sisters" free themselves from the burden of the migration narrative in a rhythmically raging stream of speech and become what they actually always were: Goddesses.
The play "Tragödienbastard" by Ewe Benbenek was technically and artistically developed by students in the winter semester 2021/2022 as part of the seminar 'Das neue Stück' and transformed into a staged reading lasting almost two hours. The project was supervised by Constanze Fischbeck, Anna Haas and Eivind Haugland as well as Sandra Blatterer, who gave exciting impulses for the development of the lighting and stage concept in a one-week lighting workshop.
The staged reading will be followed by a discussion with the author Ewe Benbenek and the participants.

Materialien zu Ausstellungsdesign und Szenografie ist als fortlaufende Materialsammlung angelegt, in der Beiträge zu Diskussionen in unserem Fachgebiet zusammengetragen und zugänglich gemacht werden. - "Materials on Exhibition Design and Scenography" is a new publication series from the Department of Exhibition Design and Scenography at the HfG Karlsruhe. It deals with the design of narrative spaces as a critical design practice. Materials on Exhibition Design and Scenography is designed as an ongoing collection of material in which contributions to discussions in our field are compiled and made accessible. We view the individual issues as exhibition spaces and the printed pages as displays. We are not primarily concerned with the production of new contributions, but rather with existing materials that create new contexts and perspectives through their selection, combination, contextualization or commentary, as well as their designed presentation in print form.

- Das Interview-Archiv von Filmkritiker und Filmemacher Gideon Bachmann beinhaltet in etwa 500 Interviews mit bekannten Filmpersönlichkeiten, die in den Jahren zwischen 1954 und 2011 geführt wurden, und seit einigen Jahren am ZKM beheimatet ist. In den halbstündigen Gesprächen geht es Gideon Bachmann um nichts weniger als: "Why you make films? What you expect from the audience? Why you think audience is going to films? To what extent they expect to see the truth and to what extent they expect to see dreams, to what extent they expect to see other people, and to what extent they expect to see themselve?"
Auf dem diesjährigen Rundgang werden sechs ausgewählte Interviews präesentiert, und passende Filme der interviewten Filmemacher an den Abenden im blauen Salon vorgeführt.
Vorführung der Tonbänder in englischer Sprache, Raum 305, Freitag und Samstag, zwischen 15 Uhr und 19Uhr, jeweils zur vollen Stunde
