Hände tauschen Scheine gegen Plastik. “Spiel” ist ein 3D Dokumentarfilm über das Geschäft mit dem Glück. In atmosphärischen Bildern beobachtet er den Betrieb der Spielbank Baden-Baden.
"Das Kasino von Baden-Baden ist ein heiliger Ort für die Adepten des machtvollen Rituals des Spielens. Wir lassen uns durch die Hintertür dieses Tempels gleiten und folgen den Spuren der «Minister»: Kassierer, Croupiers, Tischinspektoren und Manager. Langsam treiben wir durch die Spielhallen und entdecken Farben, Texturen und die beinahe mystische Umgebung. Die Kamera konzentriert sich auf die hoch kodifizierten Gesten, die als Ausdruck extremer Selbstsicherheit den Kontrapunkt zur Unvorhersehbarkeit des Spiels zu bilden scheinen. Eine kokonartige Atmosphäre, eigens dafür geschaffen, auch das leiseste Klicken der Kugel im Roulette zu hören, oder im Geldmaschinenbereich des «Doms» eine Überstimulation von hypnotisierenden Lichtern oder Formen zu erleben. «Once only, to the moon and back, get me a moment of silver out of the sea of eternity» lautet der Text des Lieds, das wir hören. Der in 3D gedrehte Film mit seiner herausragenden Klangkulisse nutzt ein beeindruckendes technisches Arsenal und arbeitet die leicht verzerrte und amplifizierte Sinneswahrnehmung heraus, die das Kasino zugleich bietet und fordert."-Paolo Moretti

Hands exchange bills for plastic. SPIEL is a 3D documentary about the business of happiness. Through atmospheric imagery, it observes the operations of the Baden-Baden casino.
"The casino in Baden-Baden is a sacred place for the adepts of the powerful ritual of gambling. We glide through the back door of this temple and follow the traces of the ‘ministers’: cashiers, croupiers, table inspectors, and managers. Slowly, we drift through the gaming halls, discovering colors, textures, and the almost mystical environment. The camera focuses on the highly coded gestures that seem to express extreme confidence, contrasting with the unpredictability of the game. A cocoon-like atmosphere is created to hear even the faintest click of the ball in roulette or to experience the overstimulation of hypnotic lights and shapes in the ‘Dome’ area. ‘Once only, to the moon and back, get me a moment of silver out of the sea of eternity’ is the text of the song we hear. The 3D film, with its outstanding soundscape, utilizes an impressive technical arsenal and emphasizes the slightly distorted and amplified sensory perception that the casino simultaneously offers and demands." - Paolo Moretti
