Nicht etwa, weil dort Geheimnisse aufzudecken wären – im Gegenteil, die broodthaers’schen Galionsfiguren sind in seinem Werk alle namentlich präsentiert –, sondern eher auf Grund der Tatsache, da er es wie kaum ein anderer verstanden hat, sich bestimmter Vorbilder zu bedienen, sprich, sich Teilaspekte aus deren Werken anzueignen und die darin enthaltenen Kerngedanken eigens fortzuschreiben. Dies geschieht auf eine Art und Weise, die es vermag, Hommage und Kritik zu vereinen.”

- Die Hochschule für Gestaltung (HfG) Karlsruhe bietet ihren Studierenden einen einzigartigen Raum für engagiertes Lernen, Forschen und Experimentieren. Sie steht seit 1992 für die interdisziplinäre Verbindung von Kunst, Design und Theorie.
Ob Kommunikationsdesign, Produktdesign, Medienkunst, Ausstellungsdesign und Szenografie oder Kunstwissenschaft und Medienphilosophie – allen Studiengängen gemeinsam ist die fächerübergreifende, meist projektbasierte Arbeit und eine individuelle Betreuung der Studierenden. Die Kooperation mit dem Zentrum für Kunst und Medien (ZKM) unterstreicht und erweitert die interdisziplinäre Ausrichtung. Zusätzlich zu den eigenen Lehrangeboten vergibt die HfG regelmäßig Gastprofessuren und Lehraufträge an internationale Künstler:innen und Wissenschaftler:innen. Hinzu kommen weltweite Austauschprogramme sowie Partnerschaften mit regionalen und internationalen Kultureinrichtungen und Hochschulen.
Die Verbindung von Theorie und Praxis zielt vor allem darauf ab, Selbstständigkeit zu entwickeln und die Studierenden auf unterschiedlichste berufliche Anforderungen vorzubereiten. Wer sich für ein Studium an der Hochschule entscheidet, genießt den Freiraum, sein eigenes Potenzial zu entwickeln.
Studierende haben die Möglichkeit, ihre Arbeiten in temporären Ausstellungen und auch dem jährlichen Rundgang zu präsentieren, an Vortrags- und Filmprogrammen mitzuwirken, sowie an künstlerischen und wissenschaftlichen Rechercheprojekten teilzunehmen.
Als eine der wenigen Hochschulen in Deutschland vergibt die HfG Karlsruhe die Abschlüsse Diplom und Magister Artium, die große Freiheit in der Ausgestaltung des Studiums bieten. Alle Abschlüsse haben volle Bologna-Kompatibilität und sind international anerkannt.

- The Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG) offers its students a unique space for dedicated learning, research and experimentation. Since 1992 it has stood for the interdisciplinary combination of art, design and theory.
Whether Communication Design, Product Design, Media Art, Exhibition Design and Scenography or Art Research and Media Philosophy, all courses share an interdisciplinary approach, that is student centered and mainly focusing on project-based work. The cooperation with the Center for Art and Media (ZKM) underlines and expands this interdisciplinary orientation. In addition to its own courses, the HfG regularly awards visiting professorships and teaching assignments to international artists and academics. There are also worldwide exchange programs and partnerships with regional and international cultural institutions and universities.
The combination of theory and practice is primarily aimed at developing independent thinking and preparing students for a wide range of professional demands. Those who choose to study at the university will enjoy the freedom of realizing their individual potential.
Students will have the opportunity to exhibit their work in temporary exhibitions or the annual open studies (Rundgang), contribute to lecture and film programs, as well as participate in artistic and scientific research projects.
The HfG Karlsruhe is one of the few universities in Germany to award both the Diploma and Magister of Arts degrees, which offer great freedom in the design of their study fields. All degrees are internationally recognized and fully Bologna-compatible.

- Das Werk stützt sich auf Theodor Rehbocks Buch von 1898, "Deutsch Südwestafrika. Seine wirtschaftliche Erschließung unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der Nutzbarmachung des Wassers", um die durch die Wissenschaft gerechtfertigte Ausbeutung zu untersuchen. Es verweist auch auf die Regulierung des Rheinflussbettes und die Standardisierung von Sprachen als weitere Folgen des "aufgeklärten Kolonialismus". Die Videoinstallation untersucht die Erzählungen wissenschaftlicher Erkundungen während der Kolonialzeit, eingebettet in einen futuristischen Kontext.

- The work draws on Theodor Rehbock's 1898 book, "Deutsch Südwestafrika. Seine wirtschaftliche Erschließung unter besonderer Berücksichtigung der Nutzbarmachung des Wassers" ("German South West Africa: Its Economic Development with Special Consideration of the Utilization of Water") to examine the exploitation justified by science. It also references the regulation of the Rhine riverbed and the standardization of languages as further consequences of "enlightened colonialism." The video installation explores the narratives of scientific explorations during the colonial era, embedded in a futuristic context.

- In seinem Text „Videowelt und fraktales Subjekt,“ beschreibt Baudrillard ein Subjekt der digitalen Ära, das danach trachtet, „sich selber in seinen Bruchstücken anzugleichen“ und anstatt nach seinem vollkommenen Idealbild, sehnt es sich nach der „Formel einer endlosen genetischen Reproduktion“ (Baudrillard 1989). Technologische Reduplikationen und Erscheinungsweisen des Körpers formen das Konzept des neuen Selbst. „Es geht heute nicht einmal mehr darum, einen Körper zu haben, sondern an seinen Körper angeschlossen (connected) zu sein.“
"Videowelt und fraktale Entspannung" ist als eine Mehrkanal-Installation, die sich auf das Konzept des fraktalen Körpers nach Baudrillard und der Interpassivität nach Pfaller stützt. Sieben Bildschirme zeigen die Verlängerung des menschlichen Körpers, während ein beauftragter Bot ein ungezwungenes Entspannungsprogramm durchführt. Basierend auf der progressiven Muskelentspannung nach Edmund Jacobson ermöglicht die Installation den Betrachter:innen, an der angeleiteten Choreografie teilzuhaben und so die Verbundenheit des Selbst mit der Technik zu erfahren. So ist sie ironisch als eine interpassive ‘Oase der Entspannung‘ konzipiert.

"Video World and Fractal Relaxation" is a multi-channel installation that draws on Baudrillard's concept of the fractal body and Pfaller's theory of interpassivity. Seven screens depict the extension of the human body while a programmed bot conducts a casual relaxation routine. Based on Edmund Jacobson's progressive muscle relaxation, the installation allows viewers to participate in the guided choreography, offering them an experience of the self's connection with technology. It is ironically designed as an interpassive "oasis of relaxation."
