| Extensive Description | - Gezeiten sind dem Zyklus von Sonne, Erde und Mond unterworfen. Sie sind die Bewegung der Wassermassen des Ozeans, die an den Küsten als periodisches Ansteigen und Absinken des Meeresspiegels in Erscheinung tritt. Der Himmelskörper Erde besteht ebenso wie unsere organischen Körper größtenteils aus Wasser. Sie sind fluide, miteinander verbunden und voneinander abhängig. Gezeiten als Daseinsmetapher umreißen das fortlaufende Ausbalancieren von Kommen und Gehen, Anziehen und Abstoßen, Sich zeigen und entziehen.

Tidalectics thus assumes the shape of an unresolved cycle rather than a forward-directed argument of progression."

"Tide" überträgt dieses Verständnis der Gezeiten in eine kontinuierliche, non-lineare Bewegung im Ausstellungsraum.
Die Entscheidung etwas zu zeigen schließt die Entscheidung für das Ausschließen ein. Diese Dialektik – Tidalectics – wird im raumzeitlichen Gefüge der Ausstellung thematisiert. Sound- und Videoarbeiten treten in den Vordergrund, die über Online-Plattformen für die Internet-Surfenden permanent sichtbar sind, aber in der Tiefe des Netzes verborgen bleiben. Daneben ergänzen Publikationen aus den öffentlichen Magazinen der Badischen Landesbibliothek sowie der ZKM/HfG-Bibliothek die Ausstellung. Diese Gegenüberstellung markiert zwei verschiedene Räume des Wissens und Archivierens, die unterschiedlichen Ökonomien unterliegen. Die schwankenden Aufmerksamkeitsspannen von Video und Sound verschränken sich mit der versunkenen Lektüre abbildungsreicher Kataloge und Romane. Die gezeigten Arbeiten sind Reproduktionen, Versionen oder Vervielfältigungen – Spuren und Abdrücke, die wie Fossilien unter versteinerten Sedimenten im Meer verbleiben, das selbst ein Archiv in Bewegung ist.

Surfende gleiten auf einer Welle entlang der Schnittstelle zwischen Wasser und Luft an der Oberfläche. Sie balancieren ihren Körper auf dem eigenen Stück festen Boden, die Finnen des Surfboards unter Wasser stabilisieren die Bewegung. Während die Gezeiten die Ausstellung in ständiger Dynamik zwischen Offenlegen und Verbergen halten, ermöglicht das Surfen die spielerische Navigation in ihr.
Die zwölf Stunden andauernde Ausstellung ist eine Einladung für den Einstieg in eine flüssigere Umwelt. Wie ein Strand oder Surfspot, der sich mit den Gezeiten immerfort verändert, ist auch die Ausstellung permanent anders wahrnehmbar. Dem Rhythmus der Gezeiten an der nordspanischen Atlantikküste folgend, verändert sich das Ausstellungsprogramm je nach Wasserstand.
Inmitten künstlerischer Positionen, popkultureller Referenzen und feministischer Theorien gleiten wir entlang. Der Ozean zeigt sich als eigener Raum und Subjekt, die existentielle Bedeutung des Wassers. Wir rutschen hinein in unsere Verstrickung in ökologische Effekte, erzeugt durch unsere industriekapitalistische Vergangenheit. Die rhythmische Wiederkehr von Ebbe und Flut, das Ansteigen und Abschwellen, der Tidenhub, ist zwar berechenbar und doch kaum erkennbar.

| Extensive Description (en) | - Tides are subject to the cycle of the sun, earth and moon. They are the movement of the water masses of the ocean, which appears on the coasts as a periodic rise and fall of the sea level. The celestial body Earth, like our organic bodies, consists largely of water. They are fluid, interconnected and interdependent. Tides as a metaphor for existence outline the continuous balancing of coming and going, attracting and repelling, showing and withdrawing.

"Tide" translates this understanding of the tides into a continuous, non-linear movement in the exhibition space.
The decision to show something includes the decision to exclude it. This dialectic - Tidalectics - is thematized in the spatio-temporal structure of the exhibition. Sound and video works come to the fore, which are permanently visible to Internet surfers via online platforms, but remain hidden in the depths of the Net. In addition, publications from the public stacks of the Badische Landesbibliothek and the ZKM/HfG library complement the exhibition. This juxtaposition marks two different spaces of knowledge and archiving, which are subject to different economies. The fluctuating attention spans of video and sound intertwine with the immersive reading of illustrated catalogs and novels. The works shown are reproductions, versions or duplications - traces and imprints that remain like fossils among fossilized sediments in the sea, which is itself an archive in motion.

Surfers glide on a wave along the interface between water and air on the surface. They balance their bodies on their own piece of solid ground, the fins of the surfboard underwater stabilizing the movement. While the tides keep the exhibition in a constant dynamic between revealing and concealing, surfing enables playful navigation within it.
The twelve-hour exhibition is an invitation to enter a more fluid environment. Like a beach or surf spot that is constantly changing with the tides, the exhibition can also be permanently perceived differently. Following the rhythm of the tides on the northern Spanish Atlantic coast, the exhibition program changes depending on the water level.
We glide along amidst artistic positions, pop-cultural references and feminist theories. The ocean reveals itself as its own space and subject, the existential meaning of water. We slide into our entanglement in ecological effects generated by our industrial capitalist past. The rhythmic recurrence of ebb and flow, the rise and fall, the tidal range, is predictable and yet barely recognizable.
