Sowohl die Basis als auch das Kissen bestehen aus expandiertem Polypropylen. Der Einsatz dieses innovativen Materials, das in der Möbelproduktion nur selten verwendet wird, ermöglicht einen leichten, robusten und zu 100 % recycelbaren Sitz. Das mit expandierten Polypropylen-Perlen gefüllte Kissen passt sich jeder Körperform an, steigert die Entspannung und vermittelt dabei das Gefühl, an einem Sonntagabend in einem Schaumbad zu versinken.

| Description (en) | - The Float lounger, designed by Felix Reif and Finn de Bruyn, elevates the bean bag to the level of a full-fledged piece of relaxation furniture.
The base and cushion are made of expanded polypropylene. The use of this innovative material, which is rarely found in furniture production, allows for a lightweight, resilient, and 100% recyclable seat. The cushion, filled with expanded polypropylene beads, adapts to every body shape enhancing relaxation while creating the sensation of sinking into a bubble bath on a Sunday evening.

| Extensive Description | - Ein Großteil der heute im Umlauf befindlichen Polstermöbel besteht aus Materialien, die nicht recycelbar sind. Besonders Polsterungen aus Polyurethan, die fest mit einer verdeckten Struktur verklebt sind, machen Sofas oder Sessel am Ende ihrer Nutzungsdauer zu Abfall.
Wir möchten die Möbelindustrie verändern – mit dem Vorschlag von leicht trennbaren, zu 100 % recycelbaren Möbeln, die dennoch unseren Vorstellungen von Entspannung entsprechen.

Nach intensiver Materialrecherche konzentrierten wir uns auf expandiertes Polypropylen (EPP) – ein hochwertiger Thermoplast mit ausgezeichneten Eigenschaften, der häufig in der Verpackungsindustrie zum Einsatz kommt.
Ebenso wichtig wie das nachhaltige Material ist der Komfort. Für uns bedeutet körperliche Entspannung auch geistige Entspannung. Da jeder Körper anders ist, benötigt jede Person ein individuelles Maß an Unterstützung, Weichheit oder Festigkeit, um die richtige Haltung für echte Entspannung zu finden.
Unser Ansatz zur Verbindung dieser beiden Aspekte in einem Möbelstück war es, eine vertraute Typologie – in unserem Fall den Sitzsack – mit einem neuen, ungewöhnlichen Material (EPP) auf innovative Weise zu kombinieren.
Um Inklusivität für unterschiedliche Körperformen zu gewährleisten, ersetzten wir den herkömmlichen Polsterschaum eines Sofas durch einen Beutel mit losen EPP-Perlen. Für zusätzlichen Komfort haben wir den Sitzsack auf eine Struktur aus druckgeformtem EPP gesetzt und ihn damit „erhöht“.
Am Ende der Lebensdauer des Möbels lässt sich der Bezug problemlos abnehmen und recyceln. Sowohl die Füllung des Kissens als auch die Basis können im selben Prozess recycelt werden – und ermöglichen so einen einfachen Einstieg in die Kreislaufwirtschaft.

| Extensive Description (en) | - Most of the upholstered furniture in circulation today consists of materials that are not recyclable. Especially Polyurethane cushioning glued to a hidden structure condemn couches or chairs as waste at the end of their usage. We want to change the industry with the proposition of easily separable, 100% recyclable furniture that still match our ideas of relaxation.

After immersing ourselves into material research, we concentrated on Expanded Polypropylene
(EPP). A high-quality thermoplastic with excellent properties, often used by the packaging industry.
Just as important as the sustainable material is the comfort. For us finding relaxation in the body means finding relaxation in the mind. All bodies are different. Therefore, every individual needs a different amount of support, softness or firmness to find the posture to really experience relaxation.
Our approach on combining the two topics into a furniture was to use common typologies (in our case the bean bag), paired with a new / different material (Expanded Polypropylene) in an innovative way. To ensure inclusivity for different body shapes we replaced the cushioning foam of a typical sofa with a bag of loose EPP beads. To provide more comfort we elevated the “bean bag” by putting it on a structure made of pressure molded EPP.
At the end of the furniture’s life, the upholstery can be easily separated and recycled. The filling of the cushion and the base can be recycled in the same process, allowing an easy circular economy.
