Der essayistische Film Mal hast du kein Pferd, dann weißt du den Weg nicht... von Benjamin Breitkopf präsentiert auf drei Leinwänden eine intensive Auseinandersetzung mit Identitätssuche in der Ukraine. Im Jahr 2014 reiste Breitkopf in das Land, um den eskalierenden Konflikt filmisch festzuhalten. Angesichts der komplexen und vielfältigen Erzählungen wurde schnell klar, dass eine reine Dokumentation nicht ausreicht. Der Film zeigt, wie trotz politischer Unruhen und internationaler Aufmerksamkeit der Alltag weitergeht: Während radikale Parolen auf dem Maidan skandiert werden, müssen gleichzeitig Kartoffeln für den nächsten Winter gepflanzt werden, ungeachtet der ungewissen Währung, in der sie gehandelt werden.
